James “Jim” Rockett, 84, passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024.

A native of Buncombe Co., Jim was a son of the late James and Paris Penland Rockett.

Jim retired as a Lieutenant from the Craggy Correctional Center.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Maynor (Joe); son, Kenneth Rockett (Cinnamon); sister, Patsy Sluder (Van); brother, Rex Rockett (Mary Jean); three grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

His family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. The graveside service will follow at Crossroads Baptist Church, Leicester, at 3:30 p.m. The Revs. Paul Sluder and David Scruggs will officiate.

  2. I’m so sorry to hear of Jim’s passing. He and RL were dear friends of my parents Joe & Linda Bryant. Hearing he passed brought tears to my eyes, but also rekindled many happy memories of times they all shared! He was a sweet soul and a true friend to my dad till the end. May he rest in peace. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

  3. Jim was a friend, graduated together, went to Illinois together (batching), working together, etc. Having lost contact for a while with him. Will miss him. God bless the family.
