Roger Dale Gumm, 78, of Leicester, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
Born December 11, 1945 in Ohio, Roger was a son of the late Harrison Vier Gumm and Grace Coey Gumm. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Robert Gumm, Betty Lou Robinson and Harrison Gumm, Jr.
Mr. Gumm was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving 6 tours of duty in Vietnam flying rescue choppers. He was an entrepreneur, owning Swing of the Bat in Florida, Roger’s Racing in Arden, and G’s Coinshop in Fletcher, from 2003 to the present. He was also a business agent for IATSE 278 Asheville in the early 2000’s.
Mr. Gumm was an educator and coach, working as a Vice Principal, PE Teacher for K3-12th grades, and a basketball coach at Crystal River Christian Academy and Red Level Christian Academy in Florida.
Roger was a family man and animal lover. He loved his house, dogs and cats. He was also a charitable giver to the community.
Surviving is his wife, Melody Gumm; son, Eddie Gumm; adopted daughter, Michelle Klecka (Tim); grandchildren, Kyle Klecka, Dean Klecka and Dustin Klecka; and a sister, Bobbie Hammond.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16 in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with VA Chaplain David Winkle officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Sorry to hear you left us, but your in a better place. We had our ups and downs but I always thought of you as a friend and father figure. Prayers to you Melody, Melissa, Shawn, Bobby, Randi, Shawn and Matthew. God speed Roger.
