Frederick Michael Pierce

November 6, 1952 ~ March 14, 2024
Born in:
Grande Blanc, MI
Resided in:
Richmond, VA
Frederick Michael Pierce, 71 formerly of Asheville, died unexpectedly in Richmond, VA, March 14, 2024, following a brief illness.
Mike was born November 6, 1952, in Grande Blanc, MI, to Cara Louise Fletcher Pierce and Frederick David Pierce. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Kelly Decker Pierce.
He is survived by his son Christian (Madison), and daughter Carrington, and granddaughter Kellyn, all of Asheville. Also surviving are his wife Carol Ann Walter, of Richmond VA, her children, Andrew (Katie), Trina, and her grandchildren, Nathan and Calvin.
Mike began a long career as a hard-working builder in California before coming to WNC in the mid 1980s. In Asheville he owned Falling Water Falls construction and sub-contracted for a number of local builders in WNC, with a good reputation as a passionate and dedicated builder. He “retired” to Richmond in 2023 where he of course continued to build as a Virginia Licensed Contractor literally right up until his death.
In addition to his love for building, Mike enjoyed walking the trails and kayaking with Carol Ann, and being active in their church. Mike will be remembered for his dry humor, being dedicated and passionate, direct but kind, smart, driven and quite stubborn. The legacy he literally built around him will remain standing for a long, long time.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Tunnel Road Chapel of Groce Funeral Home.

It was a pleasure to know you sir! I am glad we are forever connected through Kellyn. Rest well my friend.
I am so saddened by this news. Your dad was a great man and always so kind and helpful to me, Courtney and Tyler! I am praying for you both and that God will surround you both with His peace in the days and months ahead as you go through this.

Although he is gone from family he is thankfully resting in the most beautiful home now. i will be forever grateful to Michael for the love and care and beautiful memories he made with my dearest friend Carol. Carrington and Christian, so sorry to learn about your dad. He was such a nice friendly man, and proved his love for you guys. Love to you. Praying for you.
Carol,
We are so sorry for your loss. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Christian, i know this is such a terrible loss. You and your family have been in my prayers because I know how difficult the loss of a parent is and only God can get us through such deep grief. How blessed you were to have such a wonderful dad and have the years you’ve had with him. I know you will always treasure the fact that he knew Kellyn. Since he knew the Lord, you know where he is and you know you will see him again! Christians don’t not grieve without hope.
,S son and daughter. You are all in my prayers and I am so happy for your very strong faith for it will help more than anything right now. I love you and will call you later on when you have a chance to settle down a bit. If you ever want to talk day or night please call me

Mr. Pierce was a pillar of strength and provided a second home for me in high school. My deepest condolences for a man who took care of his family, even when dealing with his own grief, and extended that love to those that needed it. I will never forget how happily he supported us and our silliness and how grateful I was to know Carrington had someone that loved her that much. Sending all my love,
Richard and Sandra Cyr and family
