Evon Taylor Morse, died peacefully January 7, 2024 surrounded by her beloved family. Born August 21, 1947, she was a proud graduate of the Enka High School Class of 1965.
Evon is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charles “Buddy” Morse of Enka; daughter, Teresa Morse Spivey and son in law Dale of Weaverville; granddaughter, Shelby Spivey (fiancé Jake Combs) of Raleigh; grandson, Garrett Spivey of Weaverville; sisters-in-law, Gayle Williams, Lila Bostian, and Virginia Taylor; brother-in-law, Eddie Bostian; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and special friends.
Evon worked as head bookkeeper and office administrator for Gould Killian CPA and later became an auctioneer to help Buddy with his growing antique business, Morse Antiques. Evon and Buddy traveled all around collecting and selling beautiful antiques, but more importantly collecting wonderful friends along the way. Besides antiques, Evon loved jigsaw puzzles, gardening, reading and baking for her family and friends. She was known for making and sharing peanut brittle, Christmas chex mix, homemade biscuits and other delicious treats with her family, friends and co-workers.
Evon was an accomplished seamstress, creating beautiful clothing for her family, and even formal dresses for her daughter to wear to proms and weddings. Many words describe Evon: loving, hardworking, honest, thrifty, self-educated, determined, dedicated, faithful, kind and STRONG. Nanny was her absolute favorite name, and she delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, Shelby and Garrett. During her 76 years, she faced the most difficult family tragedies and challenges, still she rose each day to work tirelessly, fight for her family and love with everything in her. Evon gave 100%, and expected others to do the same. She spoke the truth to all, rarely backed down from any challenge, even courageously fighting Parkinson’s Disease with every breath she took.
She is now having a joyful and Heavenly reunion with her cherished son, Allan Morse, her brother, Tony Taylor, her sister, June Gunter and her parents, Golden and Florene Young Taylor, as well as many other loved ones.
Her family so appreciates “Team Evon”-a dedicated group of caregivers who kept her comfortable and pampered (Sonja, Stacey, Brooke, Gina, Wendy, Cathy, Debbie) and the staff at Swannanoa Nursing Facility.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to her church-Sardis UMC or to WNC Bridge Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 11 at 2:00 p.m. at FBC of Weaverville with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Pallbeares will be Dale Spivey, Garrett Spivey, Anthony Taylor, Shannon Gunter, Harvey Jenkins, Jerry Bruce, Mike Reid (honorary) and David Smathers (honorary).
Interment for the family will be at Piney Mountain Methodist Church Cemetery.

Morse family,
There are not enough words to express what Evon meant to me! We loved our Enka Jets and she taught me so much about accounting. She was so kind and loved me so unconditional!! We shared many walks, Christmas Parades and lunches together in downtown Asheville. She had a heart of gold and she will forever live in my heart!

Buddy and Teresa:
Our sincere condolences in the loss of Evon your dear wife and mother. We are so saddened to hear of her passing. It’s been a while since we’ve seen you but attending your auctions and talking antiques remain among our dearest memories. Evon was a wonderful lady and a pretty darn good auctioneer! And just keeping Buddy in line had to be a full time job too.You and all of your family will be in our thoughts and prayers.
