George Edward "Eddie" Womble

George Edward “Eddie” Womble, 66, of Fletcher, died Sunday, May 7, 2023 at Elizabeth House in Hendersonville.

Born in Lee County, North Carolina, he was the husband of Lynn (Robinson) Womble, who was the love of his life. They were together 40 years, having been married October 1, 1983 at Arden Presbyterian Church. Eddie was the son of the late William Bernice and Bertha Geraldine (Sprouse) Womble.

Eddie was a US Navy veteran serving as an Anti-Submarine Warfare Electronic Technician from 1973 to 1976. He was a member of Arden Baptist Church.

Eddie loved to work. When he was building houses, he loved making sawdust and hammering nails, and would often tell the boys” It’s hammer time, boys!”

Eddie was happiest spending time with Lynn, especially on the lake out on the boat. He enjoyed time being able to build things with his family.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by a brother, Wayne Womble and his wife Karen of Fletcher; a sister, Sylvia Jacques and her husband Jay of Donnelly, Idaho; a niece, Heather Phillips; three nephews: Billy Phillips and his wife Regina, Josh Phillips and his wife Brooke, and Ronnie Womble and his wife Lisa; four great-nephews, two great-nieces, and one great-great niece. He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathy Phillips.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Saturday, May 13, 2023 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Rev. Dwight Basham officiating. Friends will be received following the service at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will be at 2:00 Monday, May 15, 2023 at WNC State Veterans Cemetery, Black Mountain.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arden Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2215 Hendersonville Rd., Arden, NC 28704 or to Four Seasons Hospice, 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.
