William J. Wright, Jr., 74, passed away Monday, October 24, 2022, at his home.

Bill was born September 7, 1948, in Asheville, to the late William J. Wright, Sr. and Hazel Stepp Wright. He was preceded in death by his son, William Edward Wright. He grew up in Swannanoa and graduated from Owen High School. Bill served in the US Navy and he was the owner and operator of Wright’s Coin Shop. He was a member of various numismatic organizations.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Buckner Wright, a daughter Shelley Wright, a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Palumbo-Wright, and a sister, Barbara Zwarkowski.

Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Dr. Ralph H. Sexton, Jr., and Allen Rash officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will greet friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 – 12:00.

  10. Mr. Wright, I am so blessed to have met you. I will cherish our brief moment in my heart forever. Your sweet hug and thoughtfulness meant the world to me. I will most definitely smoke my cigar you gave me and think of you. I so hate we didn’t get to enjoy some story time together. But, I will see you in glory.

  11. I grew up with Bill in Swannanoa. From playing Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball to our high school years. I often visited with him at his store at the Kmart Plaza. Always a good friend. Till we meet again.

  17. So sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. What a great man. I became acquainted with Bill back in the 70’s during the Tom Morrissey Administration at the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department. Bill was such a personable man as well as honest in all my dealing with him over the years. Bill had helped me many times with his expertise. He will be missed!
