Marie Angela Smith

Fairview, NC- Marie Angela Smith, 85, of Fairview, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at Fleshers of Fairview.

A native of Guyana, S.A., she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Zepherina Barcellos Martins. Marie was also preceded in death by her first husband, Wolfgang John Lampe as well as her second husband, William Gordon Smith.

Marie emigrated to Toronto, Canada from British Guyana with her family in 1952. After marriage, she and her first husband decided to move to the United States, residing in Tucker, GA, where they raised their family. After her husband’s death, she eventually remarried and settled in Port Richey, FL. In her last few years, she has resided at Fleshers of Fairview. She was a woman of strong Catholic faith and was known to be generous and caring to all she met. Always loving and cheerful, she blessed the lives of so many and will be greatly missed. We are thankful she is now with her Lord.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth “Lizette” Lampe of Morganton; a step-daughter, Rita Smith (Chris Connely) of CT; a son, Stephen Lampe (Sharon) of Palos Verdes, CA; two step-sons, Gordon Smith of IL and William Smith of NJ; two sisters, Imelda Walker of Toronto, Canada and Therese Gonsalves, also of Toronto, Canada; one brother, David Martins of Guyana; nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at St. Barnabas Roman Catholic Church in Fletcher with Father Adrian Porras officiating. Burial will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday will be at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC. A Rosary will be said at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 with visitation following until 7:00 PM at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
