JD Young, 94, of Arden, NC, left us Tuesday, November 02, 2021 to enter heaven to be with our Lord and be reunited with his loving wife, Ruby.
He was born to Samuel Albert and Clara Lee Sellers Young on May 8, 1927 in Honea Path, SC. He was a loving husband and father and member of the church family of Boiling Springs Baptist Church in Fletcher.
JD was also a proud World War II U.S. Navy veteran and plank owner of the USS John R Craig, DD 885. He was retired from Burroughs Corporation where he worked as a field engineer. His favorite pastime was golfing with friends.
Surviving are his sons: Les Young of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Lloyd Young of Weaverville, NC; daughter: Andrea Burgess of Brooksville, FL and 6 grandchildren: Matthew, Megan, Erin, Melissa, Kameron and Dustin. JD was predeceased by his wife Ruby Ridge Young, brothers Larry and Elmer Young, sister, Helen Cahaly, and two granddaughters, Kathryn Ann Young and Alyssa Ellen Burgess.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, November 8, 2021 outside at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain with Pastor Phillip Luther officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://www.alz.org.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
