Asheville Butterfly TrailJoseph Paul Flythe, 73, of Arden, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Born in Portsmouth, VA, he was the husband of the late Rosa (Hilliard) Flythe, and the son of the late James Paul and Rachel Desma (Ellis) Flythe. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Paul Flythe II, and his first wife, Diane Wescotte.
Joe was an Air Force veteran who served during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed a career with IBM as a computer programmer for 25 years. Joe was a light-hearted jokester who enjoyed making people laugh and feel comfortable.
He is survived by a daughter, Brigette Fogleman and her husband Matthew of Arden; two grandchildren: Aidan Joseph and Noah Richard Fogleman; two brothers: Thomas and James Flythe; one sister, Ruth Kemp; and a step-daughter, Susan Stephens.
A Funeral Service with military honors will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, May 13, 2021 at Strickland Funeral Home, 211 W. 3rd St., Wendell, NC. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
