Joseph Edwin “Ed” Carson III, passed into the presence of his beloved Lord on April 24, 2021 at the age of 95, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jean Bradley Carson, and his youngest son William Bradley “Brad” Carson.
Ed was born on January 15, 1926 in Ayden, NC, to Elinor and Joseph Carson, Jr. He served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp. Following the war, he graduated from Duke University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. On July 30th, 1955, Ed’s life changed forever when he married Jean Bradley, who would be his wife and best friend for the next 60 years. Jean and Ed settled in Miami, FL, where they became active members of Old Cutler Presbyterian Church. He was a man of integrity and abiding faith in Christ.
For many years, Ed was a manager at Florida Power and Light. He retired in 1989. Ed spent his retirement doing the things he loved, traveling with his wife and family, playing golf, tinkering with his Ham radio, spending summers in the mountains of North Carolina and enjoying his children and grandchildren.
Ed leaves behind his sister Olga Floyd and brother Will Carson, and his sons and their spouses; Ed and Kelly, Worth and Sandy, and daughter-in-law Melissa. Ed is also survived by eight grandchildren, whom he dearly loved, Jed, Zach (Jayeon), Shelby (Stephen), Rachel (Joseph), Andrew (Cassidy), Nathan, Ben and Jack; and three great grandchildren, Benjamin and Mollie McDaniels, and Liam Carson. Ed was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.
Burial will be held at 10am, May 8, 2021 in Gerton, NC at Bearwallow Mountain Cemetery.
A celebration of life for Ed and his beloved son, Brad, will be held at Fairview Christian Fellowship on July 31st, 2021.
The Carson family extends deep gratitude to the medical providers, nurses and staff at Indian River Estates, Vero Beach, FL, for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Ed.
