Mr. Ball was one of my favorite teachers at Hall Fletcher..he was sometimes tough on the outside but gentle on the inside. I still remember him telling the class not to smoke because he dropped a cigarette in his lap while driving.
Me Ball was a favorite teacher at Hall Fletcher. He was an educator and a mentor to so many. My prayers are with the family as I am saddened by his passing.

Prayers to the Ball family, Jerry was a wonderful person, cared for all his friends and students. I remember his leadership on the Leicester Wildcats basketball tournaments at the City Auditorium so many years ago like it was yesterday.
Bruce and I are sorry to learn of the death of our Asheville High School colleague and friend. Jerry was a caring and dedicated teacher and the life of the party in the faculty cafeteria; always liked and respected by both students and faculty.
He will be missed.
So many wonderful memories of Jerry. My thoughts are with you: Launa, Darrin and Shannon.
Such a nice man. I had him for driver’s ed. He would tease me about my boyfriend at the time. I will never forget his smile and kind ways. RIP Mr. Ball.

Very fond memories are always with us.
Shannon, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Jerry. So glad you were able to move back and spend precious time with your Dad. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
My sincere sympathy to the Ball Family. In my younger years, Jerry was one of my best friends. I remember the special times we spent going to country music concerts, boxing, and going to NASCAR races in Darlington. Even though I haven’t seen him in several years, he will be missed.
Darrin, Sorry about the loss of your Dad…..he, like you, was a good one. Knew him for about 65 years and I’m sure we will miss him. Thinking of you and your family.
Thought the world of Jerry. He used to come by and visit my dad when I was younger (40 years ago). He was always nice and any time I ran into him he always took a few minutes to talk and catch up. He will be missed.
my sincere condolences
I thought the world and a day of Mr. Ball. I had him at Hall Fletcher in the late 60’s and saw him many days at AHS while I was there. Mr. Ball taught all of us in our 9th grade class how to fill out and file our income taxes. He was a great man. I went on to work in Law Enforcement and he and I crossed paths a few times during those days. Fortunately always on the outside of jail though. I will sure miss seeing him. He was a joy! My thoughts and prayers go out to the Ball Family. Accept God’s Mercy during this time.
Launa may our God hold you through this time. My prayers are with you and Darrin.
Launa,
So sorry to hear that Jerry had passed. It seems like just last Summer when he was on the roof with his leaf blower cleaning out the gutters and scaring us to death. We miss you guys coming over in the afternoons sitting out back enjoying refreshments while Jerry told us jokes!
Just wanted you to know we are thinking of you and your family.
I bought my first car from him – a red 1967 Dodge Dart. He used to greet all the kids going into the cafeteria and he would ask me how my car was doing. I was much better from knowing him.
Sad to learn of Jerry’s passing. He befriended me when I first moved to Asheville. Our thoughts and prayers to
the Ball family.
Mr. Ball was one of my favorite teachers at Asheville High School. Rest in Heaven Mr. Ball.
