Ian was one of the most interesting people I know. He was knowledgeable on many subjects and I loved to go up to their unit at the Grand Coquina and talk to them. He will be missed.

Resided in:
Daytona, FL
Ian McLaren Gower, of Daytona Beach Shores, FL, passed away on July 20, 2019 at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC, after suffering a stroke.
Born on February 28, 1928, in Eastbourne, England, he was the son of Herbert Bruce Gower and Janet Low Gower. He was predeceased by his four brothers, Hamish, Bruce, and the twins, Angus and Douglas.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Patricia McGuire Gower; his son, Andrew Douglas Gower and wife Sierra Ann Gower, of Tampa, FL; and his daughter, Kate Sue Gower, of Marshall, NC.
Ian grew up in Eastbourne, England, a seaside resort town on the south coast of England. As a boy in Eastbourne he survived air raids at the beginning of WWII. Expecting an invasion, all Eastbourne children were evacuated to north England to live with strangers. Thinking the worst was over, the children were allowed to return. Douglas, one of the twins, died on the way home from school when the bus he was on was bombed. His older brother, Hamish, lied about his age in order to join the army early. Ian and Bruce were both in the occupation forces in Germany after the war ended.
Ian immigrated to the United States in 1948. He attended Benjamin Franklin University and George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and graduated with an accounting degree.
He had a long, successful career in accounting and ended his career as the business manager of Yater Medical Group in Washington, D.C., where he worked for 20 years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the George Washington University scholarship fund, the Salvation Army, or to a charity of your choice.

In memory of my Mum’s cousin, When I visited Scotland and England, I had the privilege of meeting Ian’s parents Uncle Bert and Aunty Janet, the dearest people I have ever met, so sweet. Also his brother Hamish and his wife Joan. We were both delighted to find that we shared the Mclaren family name as a middle name. We are family.
