Dana - Laura Ann Thompson, 17, of Moonrise Lane, died unexpectedly Friday, December 6, 2002.
A lifelong resident of Dana, she was the daughter of Frank Thompson of Dana and of the late Vera Owens Thompson. She was a member of Dana Baptist Church, a student at Blue Ridge Tech and an employee of McDonalds in Hendersonville.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her sister, Arminta Thompson of Dana and Frank’s fiancée, Cynthia Carver. Also surviving are her paternal grandparents, Hubert and Margaret Thompson of Dana; her maternal grandmother, Helen Lively of Rutherford County; her uncles and aunts, Floyd Thompson, and his wife Kathy, Donald Thompson, and his wife Donna, and Peggy Thompson, all of Dana; James Owens of Rutherfordton, Barbara Hoyle, and her husband Charlie, of Forest City and a number of cousins.
Laura’s family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road. At other times, her family will be at the home of Donald Thompson, Jackson Loop Road.
Graveside services will be held in the Dana Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dan Blackwell.
Memorials may be made to Dana Baptist Church.

As Laura’s sister, Arminta’s teacher, I would just like to express my sincere sympathy for the family at this time. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless you all.

I’m so sorry for your loss and the despair that you must feel. Laura and I attended school together and even though we werent good friends, she was very special and she never looked down on anyone. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and may God Bless you in your time of need

Laura was my second cousin and she was such a sweet girl. I feel so heartbroken about her untimely death and the impact on the family.I just want to say I love you and I’m praying for you.
My thoughts are with you thru this most difficult time. We too share with you in your pain. I lost my daughter almost 3 years ago to a sudden illness. Jonathan my son goes to school with Arminta…Laura`s sister. Please if there is anything that we can do, do not hesitate to contact me.

I’m very sorry to hear about Laura. I worked with her at 4 Seasons McDonald’s and it was a pleasure to know her. She had a very good heart and always talked about her family. My heart goes out to you all and will keep you in my prayers. We are going to miss her.
We didn’t know Laura that well, but we did see her grow up and play with her sister. We will miss her and the happy laughter we heard. Our prayers go out to you and your family.

Laura’s mother, Vera, was my childhood friend. I remember the last time I saw them. It was at a department store. Laura was about 2 and she was in her mothers arms. That’s where I picture Laura now.
