Lily E. Currie, 77, of 710 Brookshire Street, Asheville, went to be an angel Thursday, March 3, 2005, at the Oaks of Sweeten Creek. Mrs. Currie was born in Ipswich, England and was a daughter of the late Charles John and Lily Cooper Elvin. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Billy, Sidney, and Jackie Elvin. She came to the United States in 1946 as the war bride of Edgar F. Currie, her husband now of 59 years. She was a homemaker and also worked as a saleslady with Western Auto Supplies. She was a member of Biltmore United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed by all who loved her. In addition to her husband, Edgar, she is survived by two daughters, Judy Jones and her husband Jack of Asheville and Marcia Foster of Asheville; one son, Ed Currie and his wife Anna of Greensboro; one sister Beatrice Johnson and her husband Real of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Edgar Currie’s daughter, Linda Sinanian of Maryland. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ashley Crowder Stanley officiating. Private burial will be Monday at Green Hills Cemetery. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be appreciated, or memorials may be made to Biltmore United Methodist Church, 376 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803.
