Brian Lynn Whitaker, 59, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Brian was born in Buncombe County to Frank Whitaker and Jane Pittillo.
Brian loved having fun. He enjoyed anything outdoors such as fishing, golfing or hunting and especially loved his music and music festivals. He was an excellent woodworker and most of all he cherished his family and friends.
Brian is survived by his parents Frank Whitaker (Jo) and Jane Pittillo; his wife, Lori Diller Whitaker; a daughter, Justine Diller (Seth Buckner); a brother, Eugene Whitaker; one granddaughter, Cora Buckner; two step-brothers; one step-sister and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10:30 am at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
The family will receive friends following the service at the family’s home.

I have a lot of fond memories of Brian growing up. We played baseball several yrs with and against each other. It was so good to see him last year in Hot Springs reminiscing our youth and the fun we had . He will be missed

Brooks and I were always so happy to run into Brian and you enjoying some good music! You both enjoyed life and living it to it’s fullest, something few couples ever do. Brian has been one of our favorite music people over the years – and the fun we’ve shared will never be forgotten. He was one of a kind, and we’ve been blessed to call him Friend.
Sadly, we will be out of town for the celebration, but we’ll definitely be there in spirit.

I only knew Brian for a short but I am glad to have known him for what time I did. I was impressed by his compassion for his family and his outlook on life. I pray that the good Lord will bring his family peace and comfort during these times.
Hadn’t seen Brian in years but grew up with the family playing sports as a youngster at Valley Springs. He always had that good natured smile. Praying for the family during this time of grief.

Close friends since 1st grade, Brian was uniquely a one-in-a-million guy with quick witted demeanor. I’m deeply saddened that he’s gone. Praying for strength for Lori, Eugene, Linda and all the family and gazillion friends that love him. So-long my friend, thanks for positively enhancing so many lives.
No words can express our deepest sympathy to all the family. Brian was special and unique, full of passions for what he loved to do. So missed by everyone who knew him. He is in God’s hands now and we pray peace and comfort to his all his family.
