Lois Myree Shook Black, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Becky’s Rest Home in Fletcher. Mrs. Black was born in Buncombe County to the late Joseph and Victoria Roberts Shook. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Joe Earl Black and Leonard Ponder; three brothers, Dewitt “D” Shook, Billy Charles “BC” Shook and Leon Shook and a son, Keith Black who passed away this past April. Lois graduated from Valley Springs High School in 1944. She worked as a secretary in the Roberson School districts for 22 years. She started her career at Valley Springs School and retired from Estes Elementary. She was a member of South Asheville Baptist Church and loved acting, singing and her family. She is survived by a son, Kevin Black (Carlen); daughter-in-law, Barbara Black; two step-daughters, Tonya Arrington (Roy) and Yolanda Parker (Gary); three grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Walker, Lindsay Hunt (Jesse), and Lori Voss (Tyler) and six great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 3:00 PM with Reverend G. Scott Lynch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Becky’s Rest Home “Activities Fund”, 316 Lower Brush Creek Road #2, Fletcher, NC 28732. Our Lake Julian staff is assisting the family.
