DeLayne DeYoung Rogers of Asheville passed away September 4, 2018 after a brief period of declining health. Mrs. Rogers was born October 22, 1930, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was a graduate of the Cranbrook School and attended Michigan State University. DeLayne was the daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy DeYoung. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Forrest Samuel Rogers, and by her son, Jack Keith Rogers. She is survived by sons Rick and his wife Kathy of Brighton, Michigan, and Bruce and his wife Laura of Charlotte, NC. In addition, she is survived by three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved: Jane Whaley Rogers of New York City (daughter of Jack and his former wife, Ferebee Ruffalo), Patricia and Elizabeth (daughters of Bruce & Laura), as well as Elizabeth’s husband Jonathan and their children, James and Carly, all of Charlotte. DeLayne worked as a professional designer, weaver, and painter. Her woven and painted items were featured in several local galleries. Dee was also an avid gardener. She was a member and past president of the Asheville Women's Civic Club. She possessed an energetic, inquiring mind and loved to learn about the world around her, particularly in areas related to design and the arts. She will be greatly missed by her family and by the friends who enjoyed her company. The family would like to express their gratitude to DeLayne's kind friend and caregiver, Debbie Jennings. The family will gather for a private remembrance of Dee. In lieu of flowers, they encourage donations to CarePartnersFoundation.org in appreciation for the help that Care Partners gave to the family during Mrs. Rogers' illness. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting her family.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I loved knowing Dee & laughing with her a million times. We enjoyed working together & had great fun going to art exhibits here & in Raleigh & Atlanta. I will wear the beautiful silk scarf she she hand painted for me in my favorite colors today in her memory & honor. Dee herself was beautiful in her person, & her spirit & warmth. My deepest sympathies to her family she loved so much.

  2. I and my daughters enjoyed Dee’s company in art classes years ago. She was a neighbor of my husband Ron and me. She was a warm and loving person, as well as being very talented. Our thoughts are with her family.

  3. I remember delayne at her home on the lake when I was 13. She would have been about 19 then . I wished she was my big sister.
