Peggy Brown Hill, 91, passed away on Tuesday August 14th, 2018. She was born on February 4th, 1927 in Winston Salem, NC and was the only child of the late Lester Brown and Ruth Walsh Brown. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis Anthony Hill for 61 years and the dear mother of Suzanna Hill Garfield (Allen) of Charleston, SC and Steven Anthony Hill (Elaine) of Asheville, NC. Peggy was a graduate of St. Genevieve of the Pines and Greensboro Women’s College. She worked for several insurance companies and the Asheville City Schools. She was employed for more than 20 years as Secretary at Newton School where she was fondly remembered by generations of Kenilworth families. Peggy lived in many cities during the course of her childhood including Montgomery, AL, Charlotte, NC and eventually Asheville, NC, where she met Francis. They raised their family in Kenilworth where she was a member of Kenilworth Presbyterian Church. Above all, Peggy was a treasure to her family; a daughter who took loving care of her aging mother, a mother who raised her children with loving hands, and a devoted wife to her precious Francis. The family extends their sincere appreciation to all her friends and caregivers at Pisgah Manor Retirement Center for their love, support, and friendship during her final years. The relatives and friends of Peggy are invited to attend her funeral service on Saturday, August 18th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Kenilworth Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Allen Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Church in Fletcher. The family will receive friends at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue on Friday, August 17th, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to Kenilworth Presbyterian Church or the Brother Wolf Animal Sanctuary.

  1. My thoughts are with you during this time of grief and sorrow. I know that your mom is now at peace and enjoying the music of heaven that she so much loved here on earth. I am truly sorry that I will not be able to attend the service due to a prior family commitment, but will be remembering you all in prayer.

  7. Rest in peace my very good friend. I am so glad our paths met even if it was for a short time you made a lasting impression in my life, and you will never be forgotten. You will always be missed, but I am glad that you no longer have to feel pain, worry about the night times, or deal with another ‘wrinkle’. I love you babygirl and until I see you again keep your eyes on me, Steve, and Suzanne. Love your friend
