Raymond Michael "Mike" Owens

Raymond Michael “Mike” Owens, 75, of Hendersonville, died on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at the Laurels of Hendersonville. A native of Greenville, SC, Mike was the son of the late Carroll Raymond and Margaret Aline Crowder Owens. He also preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Brinkley Shulimson. Mr. Owens was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He later retired from the Asheville Fire Department as Captain. He loved bluegrass music, traveling, and spending time outdoors: both working, and spending leisurely time in the mountains and at the beach. Mike is survived by his partner, Joy McCall; niece, Stacey Kingsley, her husband Ron, and their children Scott, Christopher and Amanda; Joy’s son, Matt, his wife Heather, and their children, Haley and Greyson; and cousin, Janice Davenport, of Greenville, SC. The memorial service for Mr. Owens will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Barker Heights Baptist Church, Hendersonville, NC. Pastor Jimmy Owens will officiate. His family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
