Bob Owensby, 87, of Asheville, died Wednesday, October 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Reynolds and June Owensby. Mr. Owensby was a graduate of the former Lee Edwards High School. He served in the US Air Force and retired from Unilever after 32 years as a sales manager. After retirement he returned home to his beloved mountains.
Mr. Owensby is survived by his wife, Gena Jones Owensby; son, Gary Owensby of Cranberry, PA; daughters, Karen Flanigan of Pewee Valley, KY, Julie Tolleson of Waxahachie, TX, Lisa Ayala of Forney, TX; and six beautiful grandchildren.
A service will be held in the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Tuesday at 2:00 p.m..
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

SO SORRY TO HEAR OF BOB’S PASSING. A TRUELY BEST FRIEND SINCE JR. HIGH SCHOOL DAYS. BOB AND I HAVE SHARED A CHRISTMAS GREETING CARD, BACK AND FORTH, FOR 53 YEARS. WILL MISS OUR MANY YEARS OF FRIENDSHIP.

I have truly lost one of my dearest friends
It was always so great to see Bob at our reunions. I considered him to be my friend from David Millard days. Not sure how many reunions we will have but I hope to be there and will miss Bob. Sincere sympathy to the family.
