William Harold Penland

William Harold Penland, 75, of 8 Parker Road, Asheville, died Saturday, January 8, 2005, at his home. A native of Buncombe County, he was a son of the late Ed and Clara Morgan Penland. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Penland; his second wife, Willodean Penland; a son, Harold Penland; a sister, Francis Penland and a brother, Carroll Penland. He was a retired welder and pipe fitter, a member of Oakley Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and camping. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia Chandler, Donna Marie Greer and Diane Coffey of Hudson, NC and Donna Sue Stewart of Asheville; a son, Leon Suttles of Leicester; a sister, Margaret Hensley of Enka; a brother, Bob Penland of Arden; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Allman officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens. His family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 pm Sunday at the funeral home and request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.
