Charles H. Goldsmith, 76, of 798 Academy Street Extension, Asheville, died Friday, January 7, 2005, at St. Joseph Hospital. Mr. Goldsmith was a native of Buncombe County and was a son of the late David H. and Vaughnie Cogburn Goldsmith. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Mae Griffin Goldsmith who died in 2002, and by a daughter Ruthann Goldsmith. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and was retired from American Enka Corp. He is survived by one son, C.H. Goldsmith, Jr. and his wife Angie of King George, VA; five grandchildren, Brian Roberts, Billie Ann Roberts, Polly Luckenbach, Marie Goldsmith and Vance Goldsmith; three great-grandchildren, Amber Roberts, Cody Roberts and Brittney Roberts; two sisters, Eva Cagle of Candler and Blanche Elmore of Rockingham; and three brothers, Birt Goldsmith and Emmett Goldsmith of Asheville and Jerry Goldsmith of Kingsport, TN. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Monday at the funeral home and suggest that memorials be made to Woodlawn Cemetery Fund, c/o Oakley Baptist Church, 70 Fairview Avenue, Asheville, NC 28803.
