Donald Hare, retired pastor, age 87 went to be with his Lord on Thursday, October 5, at Mission St. Joseph Campus.
A native of Asheville, he was the son of the late Andrew & Frances Hare. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou; daughter, Karen Todd and two brothers, Andrew Jr. and James “Burl”.
Donald retired to Anderson, SC where he enjoyed gardening and farming of livestock. He also enjoyed repairing farm equipment and heavy machinery.
He is survived by son, Keith Hare and his wife Mary of Anderson, SC; four granddaughters, Elisha Todd Pennix, Ali Hare Baker, Anna Hare Hall, Mitzie Todd Corbin; ten great-grandchildren, Taylor Owens, Jacob Owens, Zeke Corbin, Abigail Corbin, Olivia Hall, Elinor Baker, Isabel Baker, Reese Hall, Emmeline Baker, Sullivan Hall; one sister, Marian Riddle and one brother, Walter Hare.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 9 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery and his family will receive friends for one hour immediately prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Anderson, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

My greatest memories were getting him and Betty on an airplane. We prayed and laughed all the way to Florida. I learned so much from him about the simplicity if his growing up in the mountains. They loved me like family. I will miss his giggles and hugs.
Keith and Mary, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will miss him terribly. Don was such a great man. I loved him so much. I had known him all my life but only in the last few years I had gotton to know him well. I loved it when he came to our house to eat. He had such interesting stories and such a great sense of humor. Please take care of yourselves over the next few days and know he is so happy in Heaven. Don would not want you to greive but be happy for him, he has run his race and ran it well. We will get to see him again soon.
Keith and Mary, so sorry to hear of Mr. Hare’ S passing. However, we know he is in the presence of the Lord. He is also reunited with his beloved wife. Our love and prayers are with you now and for the coming days ahead.
Mary & Keith so sorry to hear about Mr. Hare’s passing. You both are in our prayers. We know he is more alive today than we are. I you both will miss him but he has seen Jesus and is waiting to you one day. Again sorry for your loss but Heavens gain. For to live is Christ but to die is gain.

He was a great man. I always said that he and Betty were my spiritual parents they help me so much in my walk with Christ.Now they are back together with the Lord they so dearly loved.
Don stepped in and became a dad to Mack after his died when Mack was 14. When Mack fell out of the tree and was afraid he was going to die He wanted Don to ride in the ambulance with him not me. Don taught Mack how to be a man he was a Godly figure in his life.Mack would disappear for,hours on Saturdays and I would call Betty and ask if Mack was there. She would say he sure is. He missed him so much when he moved. Don was his go to person. He taught him so much about life. We love you Don and know you are in heaven rejoicing with Betty and Karen.
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your Dad. May God be with you and your family during this difficult time.
Our deepest condolences to your family for the loss of Rev. Hare. We attended a few churches where he preached many many years ago! Our family thought very highly of him as I know many people did. No doubt he is in heaven celebrating with the saints of old! We know he will be missed dearly. We pray for comfort for you all at this time.
