Doris Luther McQuiggan
November 8, 1941 ~ September 21, 2017
Resided in:
Asheville, North Carolina
Doris Luther McQuiggan transitioned to a place of peace September 21, 2017, after spending one night in the Cancer Center in Asheville, NC. She was born in Randolph County to the late Hal and Mattalene Luther on November 8, 1941.
She was diagnosed in the spring of 2013 with non-Hodgkins lymphoma and throughout her long illness she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Rather than “fighting” her disease, she embraced it with total acceptance and grace. She awakened every day with the attitude that she would make it the best day possible.
Her greatest pleasure was spending time with friends and family, and giving them a thoughtful gift or treating them to a nice meal. As her disease progressed, many loyal, devoted friends reciprocated with delicious food, transportation to appointments, flowers and innumerable expressions of love, for which the family is exceedingly grateful.
She is survived by her husband, Bob McQuiggan, step-children Nancy Elander (Rob) of Boston, MA, Michael McQuiggan of San Diego, CA, Matthew McQuiggan of Gracetown, Western Australia, two step-grandchildren, her sister Evelyn Barber, her sister-in-law Rosia Luther and several special nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Baxter Luther, her brother-in-law Fred Barber, her nephew Mark Barber and her step-mother, Thelma Thompson Luther.
At her request, there will be no funeral service. There will be a celebration of her life at a later time. In keeping with her nature, she wanted memorials to be your choice.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
