Thomas Edward Franklin, 74 of Candler NC went home to be with Jesus after a long battle with cancer on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. He was the son of the late Norman and Vivian H. Franklin. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Carolyn F. Franklin, a son Charles "Chuck" N. Franklin, two daughters Karen Lynn Franklin and Susan Rene Franklin of Candler. He kept them in his heart always. Four grandchildren, Zachary and Bailey Gibson, Sydney and Tanner Swain. Three brothers, Homer (Barbara) Franklin, Larry (Linda) Franklin of Asheville NC, and Mickey Franklin of San Diego, CA. A brother from another sweet mother, Jesse "Junior" (Linda) Moody of Waynesville, NC. Brother-in-law Billy Franklin (Katie) and sisters-in-law Ann Fie of Waynesville, NC and Jean Cooper of Newton NC. Also many nephews and nieces who were all very special to him, each in their own wonderful way. Tommy enjoyed golfing, fishing, trains, music and his azaleas. He worked for many years building houses, then worked in golf at the Grove Park Inn, Sunspree G.C. and the Biltmore Forest CC before retiring. He worked part-time at the N.C. Farmers Market in security. Tommy made friends easily and enjoyed them, in all walks of life. He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church for many years, helped quietly in Sunday School, VBS, and other programs as a carpenter, painter, etc. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. Funeral services will be held in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home on Saturday, September 2 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service. Pastors Stanley Taylor and Billy Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Wesley and Shane Moody, Brian Franklin, Kyle Ashebrenner, Chad Franklin, and Doug Sutton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunrise Baptist Church, 419 Deaverview Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.

  8. I became acquainted with Tommy through his work as security at the WNC Farmers’ Market. I deliver up there almost every Friday morning and looked forward to interacting with Tommy. I have been asking about his ongoing battle with cancer and was saddened to learn of his passing this week. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.
