Grover Ruben Robertson

Grover Ruben Robertson passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2017 in his home. He was born in Yancy County, NC to the late Mitchell Robertson and Cleo Robertson on November 19, 1925. He grew up near Asheville NC where he met and married Frances Banister in 1951; they celebrated their 66 anniversary the day before his death. They lived in a home he built on Riceville Road in 1953. G.R. loved telling stories, traveling to new places in his RV, hunting, camping, Alaska, and the mountains of Western North Carolina. He was proud to have been named as the first Chief of the Riceville Volunteer Fire Department. However his greatest love was for his family. He is survived by his wife, and their five children, Tim L Robertson, Andy L Robertson, Rise R Wilson, Roy M Robertson, and Patty L Robertson; seven grand children, five great-grand children, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 19, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, NC 28804. Rev. Joel Burton will officiate. A celebration of life will follow at 5 to 7 PM at the Riceville Community Center at Riceville Fire Department 2252 Riceville Road, Asheville, NC 28805. The family requests that memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be sent to the Riceville Fire Department at the address above. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
