Jerrold T. "Jerry" Hunter, 85, died Tuesday, May 23, 2017, at his residence. A native of Camas, WA, Jerrold was a son of the late Charles Frank and Mabel Downer Hunter and was the middle child of three brothers and three sisters. He served in the US Army as a sergeant in Korea where he was awarded the bronze star. He was on a ship coming home when the armistice was signed. Jerry retired in 1993 following 37 years working in the Gypsum Industry. He and his wife Marlene moved from California to Buncombe County in 2005 and joined St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Mr. Hunter is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marlene Tickle Hunter, whom he married October 10, 1953, in Sublemity, OR; children, James (Dawn), Kathee (Ron); Tony (Grace), and Michael (Kimberly); 10 grandchildren, Milora, Seth, Josh, Kourtney, West, Jackson, Cosette (Jeff), Heidi (Hector), Kim, and Charles, and great-grandchildren, Winter and Phoenix. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Dean Cesa at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2017, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Mr. Hunter's cremains will be interred at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 768 Asbury Road, Candler, NC 28715. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
