Edward Moalt Burton went to THE house of his Lord Jesus Christ on the Lord's Day, Sunday, February 19, 2017. He is a good godly man who the Lord saw fit to call home! He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dovie Burton, and his brother Ralph. Ed was born in Yancey County on August 9, 1936. He served in the Navy Reserves. He devoted his whole life to working as a carpenter. He was faithful to his church, and served for many years as a deacon. He was always the first to help if he saw any need. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Naomi, with whom he just celebrated 60 years of marriage. He is also survived by his siblings--Emma Lee Chapman, Bill Burton, and Mary Jane Banks. He was the proud father of four sons and their wives--Eddie and Donna, Ricky and Denise, Joel and Amy, and Andy and Lauri. He was the best Papaw ever to Jessica & Jesse, Becca & Jon, Rachel & Abraham, Brynn, Heather, Alex, Bailey, Caleb, Ezekiel, Isaac, Ali, Zachariah, Tyler, Ysabella, Savannah, and Abigail. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, February 22, at 1:00 p.m., at God's Way Baptist Church, 943 Warren Wilson Rd., officiated by Dr. Roy Kilby, and sons Ricky Burton and Joel Burton. Visitation will be held an hour before the funeral. Burial will be at the Grassy Branch Baptist Church cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, Bibles be placed through Gideon's International. Pallbearers will be Caleb Burton, Isaac Burton, Mike Kazulen, Jon Ray, Abraham Wydner, Matthew Burton and Caleb Smith. Ed's final wish for his friends and family is that they receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior! Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

  5. If any one deserves to be with the lord, to be without pain, to be walking the streets of gold and rejoicing with family and friends who have gone before him. That would be Uncle Ed. He has always been an inspiration and a example to me. I am sad to miss his light that shinned here… But I praise God he is Home today.

  6. Naomi and family, may God grant you peace and comfort during this difficult time. Ed was such a good and godly man.

  7. Naomi and family, Doug and I are so sorry for your loss!! 60 years of marriage is an unthinkable goal by most. We can’t even imagine how your heart breaks. 9. Sad for his family, happy for him to be with his lord, no more pain . God bless you his dear wife and children.

  10. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. I’ve known this family growing up my whole life in Grassy Branch Church since I was a little girl they are wonderful people.

  11. Very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. I got to know Ed in my home building days between about 1996 and 2007. I valued his knowledge of building and his superior grading skills. I can remember that smile he would give you. A good man who will surely be missed. Prayers for all of his family.

  12. Hugs and prayers! Cherish the beautiful memories, and hold them close to your heart. May the Spirit be with you at this difficult time to give you the comfort that you need.

  13. Dear Naomi and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss, but we know Ed is celebrating in heaven with Jesus. He was one of the kindest men I have known. I loved to hear him laugh. We will be praying for you all.
With much love Karen and Sonny Disher <3

  14. It was such a privilege and joy to have met Ed and watch him work with integrity and always a smile. He reminded me of my brother and I can see that sweet face. So happy he is with his Lord! Comfort and Peace upon each family member and remember what a testimony he ended this life here on earth with!

  15. My deepest sympathies to all of his family, especially His precious ‘ soul mate’ Naomi who spent over 60 years as his wife. He will be missed so much as he was a dedicated Child Of God and blessed with such a wonderful family. My love and prayers are with all of you.

  16. To all of Ed’s family, my deepest sympathies. Ed was one of my Sunday school teachers at Grassy Branch Baptist. Like everyone else I will always remember that big smile. He was such a Godly man. I know he will be missed immensely. The silver lining behind this temporary cloud is that we all know Ed is now celebrating with his Lord and Savior and flashing that big smile all around heaven. May God bless and comfort all of the family.

  17. As a ‘girl’ I went to work for Ron Butler and the construction company and worked there 17 years. Ed worked with me – and he ‘molded’ me – what a wonderful and fine Christian family. I am so blessed to have known Ed and made him and all that construction bunch and his kids my ‘family’. My momma helped ‘Naomi’ plan weddings – we love each of the boys and their families and wives and those precious little ones. Our life has been blessed to have ‘been surrounded’ by this man and his ‘wealth’ of love, smiles and helpfulness. * Oh, how I thank the Lord for a day when I was able to stop by and have ‘my last memories of him’ sitting at that kitchen counter – talking to me – reminding me of good / building times and how his and Naomi’s Love of our Jesus always, always showed thru ! ! * Ed and Naomi have loved my kids thru the years – even knitting my lst grandchild HIS blanket ~ God Bless all of you all !

  18. I love and miss all of you.You were always there when I needed you. Thank you. I wish we could be family again.
