September 5, 1930 ~ December 30, 2016

Resided in: Waxhaw, NC

Pastor Jack, known to many by this name, went to be with His Heavenly Father on Friday, December 30th. He was reunited with his wife, known to him as "Min Elskada", Edna (DeLong) Christensen, his brother Roy Christensen, his sisters Marie Tansi and Elinor Peckham and his beloved Norwegian parents Jacob and Gudrun Christensen. They are rejoicing in Heaven and seated at the feet of Jesus together. Jack was born on September 5, 1930 in New York to his Norwegian parents. He loved Jesus Christ with all of his heart and soul and mind. At an early age, he pledged to follow and serve Him as His plan unfolded for Jack. God's plan took him all over the world…to Indiana, Pakistan, New Hampshire, Maine, New Jersey, Africa, Norway and many more places where he loved on the people and taught them of the love only a Heavenly Father could give. Jack and Edna served as missionaries with Conservative Baptist Foreign Missionary Society in Pakistan, pastored United Baptist Church in Old Town, ME and First Baptist Church in Portland, ME and then traveled the eastern seaboard of the U.S. as a representative for their beloved missionary organization, now called World Venture. His pointed sermons, where he would glean "a little honey from the rock", were broadcast on radio and drive in theaters throughout Maine and New Hampshire for many years. They retired in Maine, near the children and grandchildren and later moved with family to NC. Jack loved to enjoy fun times with his children, grandchildren and now great grandchildren! His "Haven of Rest" camp in northern Maine was a respite for many weary ones and a place where fond memories were made. Jack and Edna leave David and Janie Christensen of Standish, ME; Daniel and Cindy Christensen of Londonderry, NH; Deborah and Randy Holt of Stark, NH; Dorcas and Greg Bartley of Waxhaw, NC; and Dorothy and Dan Clark of Arden, NC. Jack and Edna had many grandchildren: Katie and Kari Christensen; Jody and Dan Anderson, Scott and Jenn Christensen, Tim and Krissy Christensen and Eric and Kate Christensen; Jeff Holt and Jill Holt; Gregory, Jacob and Min Bartley; Amanda and Ben Robertson, Joshua Clark and Micah Clark and great grandchildren : Nathan, Ryan, Cailee and Luke Anderson; Taylor and Aiden Christensen; Ella, Arlena and Jack Christensen; and Oliver Christensen who strive to carry on their legacy . We are thankful for the many years of prayer and support that many have shown to us as we walked together though many illnesses, celebrations and Heavenly joys. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to "The Rephidim Project", Galilee Baptist Church, 317 Main St, Gorham, ME 04038. A Memorial Service will be held at Galilee Baptist Church on Saturday, January 14th at 2:00 pm with a reception following. Guestbook

  1. Few have had more of an impact on God’s Kingdom than Jack. His tireless passion for souls and desire to see Christians educated in the Bible was uncompromising. He was a mentor to me as well as a trusted advisor during my time as President of New England Bible College. Always prayerful, dedicated, and organized, he demonstrated a passionate example of servant-leadership. Although we all miss him, he’s rejoicing with his bride and with the saints that have preceded him as they sing praises to our glorious Lord Jesus Christ!

  2. Jack was a friend, colleague, mentor, fellow pastor, and more. He will be missed by many, including me. Blessings to the family. Andy and Nancy Spohrer

  3. Jack Christensen was the most humblest pastor/shepherd I have ever known. I and First Baptist Church in South Portland will never realize the powerful impact of his prayers, this side of heaven. ‘Well done, thou good and faithful servant.’

  4. My prayers goes out to pastor Dave and his family.Pastor Jack was a very caring man He loved his Lord Jesus.May he RIP Until we meet again

  5. It has been such a joy to know Edna and Jack Christensen. She counseled me every week for several years at the hair salon. He was always so patient and gracious while waiting for us to finish the hairstyle. Loved them both!

  6. Praise God for husband and wife who served the Lord together. Fond memories of coworking with them in Pakistan and observing their courage and trust in God when facing difficult illnesses and difficult decisions. May God comfort each one in the family.

  7. I just found out about the passing of Mr. Jack. I loved his sweet spirit and humble heart. I am blessed to have known him. Prayers for the family.
