Dr. Royce Marion Brown, 88, of Candler, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the John F. Keever Jr. Hospice Solace Center in Asheville.
A native of Middletown, IN, he was a son of the late Gerrell Fay and May Zirkle Brown. He was also preceded in death by one son, Gary Brown.
Royce married Gladys Bowen on June 27, 1948 and graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College (later Andrews University) in 1948, and from Loma Linda University Medical School in 1953. Following his graduation from medical school, he completed an internship in South Bend, IN, an anesthesia residency in Indianapolis, IN, and served for just under two years in the United States Air Force. He went on to become an anesthesiologist and worked for 35 years at Hinsdale Sanitarium in Hinsdale, IL. He and his wife Gladys retired to Western North Carolina in 1993.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gladys Eileen Bowen Brown; three children, Marileen Marcus, Sheralyn Brown and Kevin Brown and seven grandchildren, Capt. Joshua Marcus, Dr. Kyle Brown, Brittany Brown, Alexandra Pickens, Joseph Pickens, III, Samuel Brown and Simon Brown.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Arden Seventh-day Adventist Church. A private interment will be held at Green Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Mount Pisgah Seventh-day Adventist Church, 21 Academy Drive, Candler, NC 28715, (for benefit of: Sonrise Community Outreach).

Oh my! So sorry for Uncle Royce’s untimely death! but glad it was short for him!
My condolences to Aunt Gladys, and my cousins, Marileen, Sheralyn and Kevin, and the rest of the family.
My fondest memories are from the summer I lived with them and Mary Jo and Gary at Hinsdale after the deaths of my mother (Lois Bowen) and father Garland Hoag when I was a college student.
He was a quiet reserved man, and very wise.
I wish our paths could have crossed more often!
Will look forward to spending that time in Eternity!
