Arthur Nelson Bridges, Sr.

Arthur Nelson Bridges, Sr., 73, of Swannanoa, died Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Shelby, NC, he was a son of the late Claude Newton Bridges and Mary Lee Walker Bridges. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Bridges, and by his brother-in-law and best friend, Bobby Bright, who passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016. Mr. Bridges enjoyed going to Dollywood and seeing the Kingdom Heirs Quartet, and watching racing and wrestling. He also loved outings with his family, spending time at Myrtle Beach, and taking cruises with his wife, Dorothy. Most of all, he loved spoiling his granddaughter Charity, who was his princess, and never missed her soccer games. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Rozelle Bowman Bridges; sons, Nelson Bridges, Jr., Lee Bridges, and David Joel Bridges and wife Christina Gellman Bridges; granddaughter, Charity Autumn Bridges; sisters Ann Bright, Claudette Hall, and Libby Camby and husband Calvin; and many other family members. Mr. Bridges will be having a joint service with his brother-in-law, Mr. Bobby Bright, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. Both families will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial for Mr. Bridges will follow at Green Hills Cemetery.
