Mrs. Virginia Catherine Black Hannah, 85, went home to be with the Lord on February 21, 2016, at the Golden Living Health Care Center after a long period of declining health.
Mrs. Hannah was born May 2, 1930, in Buncombe County, to the late Jesse and Josie Hayes Black. She worked as a beautician, fire tower marshal, store clerk and home health care provider. She enjoyed decorating, gardening, tole painting, crafting, poetry, traveling and dirt bike riding.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Max Jackson Hannah; daughters, Shalene Hannah and Jennifer Styles; sisters, Edith Childs and Gladys West; and brothers, Gordon Black and William I. Black.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Joan Baldwin and husband, Michael; son-in-law, Alan B. Styles; sisters, Hiawatha Anders, Hilda Abernathy, and Celeste Bartlett; her grandchildren, Jake Baldwin, Kelly Baldwin, Andrew Styles, Megan Zelaya, and Laurel Roberts; and great-grandchildren, Chelsie and Jarod Baldwin, Shalene and Zeva Neighbors, and Connor and Cameron Ledford.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Garry Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Big Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
