Winford Lawton "Billy" McAlister

Winford Lawton "Billy" McAlister, 84, of Asheville, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at the Laurels of Summit Ridge. A native of Lowell, NC, Mr. McAlister was a son of the late Winford and Alma Martin McAlister. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Maria McAlister; and a number of siblings. Mr. McAlister was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired as an Administrative Officer with the U.S. Park Service. He is survived by his son, Robbie McAlister and wife Carissa, of Lexington, SC; sisters, Nancy Bell, of Asheville, and Mary Ann Anderson, of Santee, SC; brother, Charles McAlister, of Myrtle Beach, SC; and grandchildren, Robert, Richard, and Rustin McAlister. A memorial service for Mr. McAlister will be at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 1 at Beverly Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. William D "Billy" King officiating. His family will receive friends at the church for half an hour prior to the service. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Rd. is assisting the family.
