Tania Mayordomo, 91, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015. A native of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, she was a daughter of the late George and Anna Nadashen Gavrilov. She had worked as a tour guide in Sochi, Russia, the site of the 2014 Winter Olympics. She had lived in the U.S. for 20 years. She was a Humanist, and always considered the well being of others before considering herself. Surviving are two daughters, Yeva Tierney and son-in-law Alien Wilson of Asheville and Amarita Tezla of England; sister, Lala; nephew Oleg; niece Lelia; and granddaughter Anya. A gathering and celebration of her life will be from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Asheville Humane Society, 14 Forever Friends Lane, Asheville, NC 28806. Dearest Mom our love for you will be always in our hearts. Tania was born in a home where education was one of the first priorities, therefore after finishing high school, she went to university (botanical /agricultural science) while a second world war broke out. Despite extremely difficult times, she managed to survive and complete her studies. Soon after trying to pursue her profession, she realized that her "heart was not with leaves and microscopes, but with the people and animals." Oh, how she adored those animals! In the early days for a brief period of time she worked as an editor for the local newspaper and even as a dog and horse trainer. When Tania moved to Sochi, only then she knew what she really wanted to do, as unlikely as it seemed at first, an excursion quide. That job involved constant travels and meeting new groups of interesting people on a daily basis. She loved her job and worked there for many, many years, until fate brought her to America. Tania knew a few languages so she offered herself as a translator on a voluntary basis. People loved her, she touched many lives with her kindness. She was also an extremely funny person, had this unforgettable and unique sense of humor. She made even the most serious people laugh. In her spare time Tania loved to read, she had the most amazing memory, and one of her many talents was writing beautiful poetry. She was very interested in ancient Greek and Egyptian mythology, also in ancient Roman philosophy, that she knew by heart. When she was younger she loved to dance and sing, she loved LIFE, and didn't see death as the final stop, she believed in reincarnation, and to the "end" she was loving, cheerful and alert. So ... wherever you are now, dear Mom, happy and adventurous travels. We love you so very much

  16. Across the Rainbow Bridge walked a wonderful woman named Tania Mayordomo. Although I didn’t know Tania, I know her daughter Yeva and her son in law, Alien; they are family to me. From what I read about Tania, she was a humane human being, who believed in the goodness of Humanity and taught her daughters the same. I see Tania in my mind’s eye crossing a Rainbow Bridge, on the other side are the animals she loved and cared for. She will come back because her belief in reincarnation was very strong. She will come back to do the things she did in this life again and make this World a better place than she found it.
May the Blessings of the Light be upon her family as they move forward, not with sadness but with memory of this wonderful, kind human being; a woman among women. I am sure, Yeva and Alien, that our ancestor, Giordano Bruno, took her by the hand and walked her right across that bridge!
    Many Blessings,
    Reverend High Priestess Lori Bruno
Our Lord and Lady of the Trinacrian Rose Church
Salem, MA, the Vast Cosmos and Mount Etna.
    Much love to all.

  17. I knew Tania though not by name. You asked me to look in on her while you were away, on once. She asked to see my home. While there I ran a section of video tape about a reservation Indian who’d become friends with a captain in charge with the reservation. The captain offered to do the Indian a favor. The Indian asked for a horse. The captain didn’t know the meaning of a horse to the Indian who died soon afterward, never to return to his distant homeland because the captain forgot to bring a horse. This episode brought Tania to tears as it nearly did to me when I first saw it. We then returned to her condo. I think we met once after that. The world has a great heart.
