Wilma Tipton Snipes, 70, of Asheville, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center after a long battle with cancer.
A native of Asheville, Mrs. Snipes was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mildred Tipton.
Wilma was a 1963 graduate of Erwin High School and went on to be a substitute school teacher with Asheville City and Buncombe Co. Schools for many years.
Mrs. Snipes is survived by her husband, Sam Snipes; sons, Randy Snipes (Sonya) and Jason Snipes (Melissa); brothers, James "Elmer" Tipton (Judy), of Oklahoma City, OK, Kenneth Tipton (Debbie), of Charlotte, and Lloyd Tipton, of Asheville; sister, Pauline Davis (Richard), of Asheville; grandchildren, Zach, Eli and Cory; and many nieces and nephews who were all special to her. She is also survived by hundreds of small school children and dozens of school teachers in Buncombe Co. schools, which she always considered to be her extended family.
A funeral service for Mrs. Snipes will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Terry Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the funeral home

Wilma was such beautiful person inside and out, she will be missed. I am praying for the family may God comfort your hearts and give you the strength to face the coming days.

Sam and family, Wilma was a classmates with a great personality and was fun to be around. The memories that she left for family and friends will always be cherished. We will remember you in thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to Wlma’s family. I worked with her on occasion at Sand Hill-Venable School and always enjoyed the times we got to talk. She was a wonderful person and the kids loved her. May she be free from pain and rest in peace. Barb Saunders, Foster Grandparent, 2nd grade.

I always enjoyed seeing Wilma at Sand Hill-Venable. She loved children and was always there for everyone. My prayers and sympathy to her family.
