Francis Joseph Fisher, Sr., 93, of Candler, died on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at the Memorial Campus of Mission Hospitals. A native of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Mr. Fisher was a son of the late John Miller Fisher, Sr., and Cassandra Sadler Fisher. He was also preceded in death by his brother, John Miller Fisher, Jr. Mr. Fisher graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1944. He retired from American Enka, where he worked for many years as a chemical engineer. Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Sylvia White Fisher. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary on June 2, 2015. He is also survived by daughter, Mary Sue Fisher; sons, Francis Joseph "Joe" Fisher, Jr., and wife Fran, David G. Fisher and wife Mabel, and Daniel P. Fisher and wife Wendy; sister, Mary Bobbie Nantz; three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service for Mr. Fisher will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with Mr. Fisher's grandson-in-law, the Rev. Andrew Shoger, officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. If so desired, memorials may be made to the North Carolina Arboretum Society, 100 Frederick Law Olmsted Way, Asheville, NC 28806.
