Nell Reed McIntyre, 85, of 64 Beechwood Drive, Horse Shoe, formerly of Asheville, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, in a Hendersonville Hospital.
Mrs. McIntyre was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Oscar and Cora Dotson Reed. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hughes McIntyre in 1968, a daughter, Betty Harrell who died June 22, 2002, by two sisters, Marie Mason and Mabel Randall, and by three brothers, Zeb, Claude and Vernon Reed. She was a member of Oakley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Betty Jean McIntyre of Horse Shoe and the Rev. Don and Gail McIntyre of Tryon; two sisters, Sara Searcy and Louise Justice of Fairview; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral home with the Rev. Donald Newman officiating. Burial will be at Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery, Fairview.
Pallbearers will be Don McIntyre, Jr., Chuck Merrell, Bobby McIntyre, Mike Armstrong, Robert Danielson, Jimmy Reed, Kenny Reed, and Larry Frizzell. Honorary pallbearers will be Chip Jones, David Leffler, Rob Griffin, Conley Fender, Melvin McCarson, Robell Huntsinger, and Richard Merrell.
Her family will receive friends Wednesday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service and at other times will be at the residence, 64 Beechwood Drive, Horse Shoe.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to either the American Cancer Society, 120 Executive Park, Building 1, Asheville, NC 28801, or to one’s favorite charity.
