Louise M. Bell, 86, of Asheville passed away at 9:37 p.m. Sunday, August 22, 2004, at the Laurels at Greentree Ridge. Mrs. Bell, referred to affectionately by local family as “Shorty”, was born in Somerville, MA, and was a daughter of the late John and Agnes Grinnell. She was married for 60 years to Chester Arthur Bell who died in 2000, and was also preceded in death by a brother Sonny Grinnell. She is survived by two sons, a daughter and a daughter-in-law: Janice Kelley of Asheville, John Bell of Asheville, and Stephen and Amaya Bell of Jupiter, FL; seven grandchildren including Timothy Kelley of Leicester, whom she helped raise, eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A memorial Mass will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. John M. Pagel at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buncombe County Animal Shelter, 72 Lee’s Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28806-4714. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is in charge of the arrangements.
