The Faith Trio — We are so sorry for your loss. We dearly loved Norman. I do not think I ever saw him when he did not have a big smile on his face. He is in heaven now, shouting, singing, praising God. It will not be long before we will all be there with him. If there is anything, other than prayers, that we can do, all you need to do is ask. I was shocked and so very very sad to hear about Norman. What a great guy he was. He touched so many folks through the years with his love for people and his huge love for our Lord. While so many of us are sad, Norman is now enjoying all the things that God has prepared for him as well as all the things that Norman has been singing about for so many years. Words seem inadequate, but please know that my thoughts and prayers are with Kaye and all of the Primitives.

My heart is still broken today! I can remember as a little girl going to
Powell Branch and the Brush Arbors in Robbinsville NC and hearing the
Primitive Quartet when they first started the group and what church
services and fellowship we had with them. The Hamby Brothers Quartet and the Hamby family are so very blessed that our paths crossed many years ago. I was blessed growing up and still blessed today! Norman Wilson you will never be
forgotten and missed by all who knew you an even those who didn’t. Your
light has shown and the millions of people you have blessed throughout
you life. I know because I am one of those people!!! Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

The thing I remember most is Normans smile psalms 139 oh lord thou has searched me and known me ….absolutely no doubt in my mind Norman new the Lord and the Lord knew him and blessed him with a voice like no other …he will be missed but he made it to the place he song loud about….now he sings with the angels and has a new song

I still cannot believe I won’t see that Norman smile and get my big hug every time I’d see him. He was such a blessing to our family. I’m glad we spent time with him and Kaye Saturday at the singing. My family and I have traveled many miles to listen to the Primitive Quartet when in our area of Kentucky. We were very saddened to hear of Brother Norman’s passing. Go rest high Mr. Norman! I remember it had been a few years since we had seen the Primitave Qrt and my daddy has always been a big fan. He had become bedridden and couldn’t come anymore. I talked to Norman that night and he remembered and asked me about daddy. I was shocked as many people as they see. He and I took a pic and he sent a video hello to dad. It made daddy’s day! May God bless his family and friends. We will miss him!

I can never begin to thank the Lord enough for the blessing Norm has been to me. I felt so encouraged and cheered listening to him sing with that beautiful tenor voice. So often it was about heaven, and now ‘When He Beckons Me Home To Stay’ has come true. Prayers from Blakely Ga. The Primitives Music has been part of my life for the past 30-35 years. Had the privilege to meet, talk with, and take pictures with him. Always that wonderful word from the Lord. My wife and I were in the sanctuary of Trinity Baptist Church when he returned to the group after the loss of his precious brothe . I will never forget the standing ovation the audience gave him to welcome him back. Norman was visibly moved. He is with Jesus now. On cruise with primitives two Februaries ago. Always, always sought him out to talk with him and he always was praising his Lord. Met you on the ship, Kay, as your beloved husband ( and my favorite tenor singer EVER) sat with you st your table in the dining room and I am looking at that plc right now. We are heartbroken with you but we grieve with ‘My Hope Is In The Blood’ words ringing so clearly and strongly in our ears.

Norman Wilson was an Example of a TRUE CHRISTIAN. He LOVED PEOPLE as CHRIST did. He was a friend to all I’ve known him for 41 years and have played The Primitive Quartet on radio for many years. He was a true friend to us. It’s hard to give up a person with such a loving humble spirit that he always showed to everybody he came in contact with. Heaven is Sweeter knowing our friend is there! He would sing many times when we saw him a song that featured him ‘I Mean To Go Through. I love to see him sing that song because of his Spirit he put into every word he sang in that song. What to say??? Kaye, My heart is broken for you and your family and all the Primitive Quartet family. You probably can never comprehend what your husband has meant to so many people. I’ve never heard anybody say a negative word about him, always mentioning his contagious smile and his friendly demeanor. My 84 year old mother thought he was the berries. At first I was so stunned and hurt about his death, but that was just selfishness. Because if we believe what we say we believe, it’s what we’re all striving for. He just got called a little sooner than we expected. It’ll be hard to live without his presence, his marvelous voice, and his everpresent smile, but I am so happy for him. Just asking God to give us the grace to go on, as he promised he would do. To the Quartet, please go on, as you know he would want you to, as you all are such a tremendous blessing to so many people. THE MASTER’S HARMONY will never forget what he has meant to us. Every time we got to worship with him, it was a blessing. I hope he’s able to hold up his crown, for it will be full of jewels. Our prayers are with you all.

I have never had such a shock in my life. When my son Manuel said mom sit down I have some sad news for you, Norman Wilson passed away. It was so hard to believe. I had just come home from church. Norman will truly be missed! I’ve had the Quartetin my home many times for meals & they’ve really enjoyed themselves so much. They were such nice guys to have in my home. Norman, you were such a blessing to me & my family. I love you, my friend & I’m really going to miss you. Our prayers are with you, Kaye.

Kay I know you know Norman is walking and talking with the Lord. I have listened to the Primitives since the early 80’s and have gone to the fall singing many many times. It is hard to believe Norman won’t be there this year. I will miss his smile and his beautiful voice but I know I will see him again someday. He walked, talked, and lived as an example for us all. He will be truly missed. May God wrap you and the other Primitives in His loving arms and give you peace.

How sad I was to read of his passing. I used to play for a men’s quartet that opened the program for Primitive qt when they came to sing in Lafayette, Tenn each Sept. He had a gift that literally made him shine among others, his smile, his joy that showed to everyone he met it seemed. After a singing on night in Lafayette, he and the rest of the group came over to MeasureUP where my husband was plant manager and pattern maker to pick out fabrics to have some new custom made shirts made for each one and the fun they all had with us and with each other I will never forget Norman and how much fun we had in finding him the perfect fabric to go with a certain suit he had on the bus he went and got the suit and we matched up a beautiful shirt fabric he would laugh and say ‘Now I want to look better than the rest of the fellows’, and grin so big, just having fun. I remember my first time in getting to know him the group went to Barry Witchers house for refreshments and to rest and talk and fellowship and sing. I played an old song and everyone went to singing and I remember distinctly him saying, Sister, you would make a man sing himself too death with that good playing. I was not all that good, He was just super kind. I loved so dearly for them to sing How Tedious and Tasteless and I asked him one night before they sung to please put it in their program and he said, you know I always loved it better than Amazing Grace, for John Newton wrote them both. He began to sing it behind the curtain for me and my husband and others gathered round and tears and a smile all the time he would speak some of it and sing some of it and the Spriit so thick you would have to have cut it with a knife as the old saying goes. He was a special and most gifted musician and singer but his JOY is what set him aside from the other singers as I do believe he lived in a state of joy most all the time. Now he is home, as the song says and he wants others to follow him to that home. What he has left behind him is thousands of friends and a testimony that he wants everyone to be ready to meet him when they get home as he has gone. May God bless his wife and family and Primitive qt for they are going to miss him terribly. Our family learned to love him.

I’ve met Norman Wilson on several cruises and at Willow Valley Church in Vilas, NC He was the best tenor singer with a kind word and smile for everyone. He will forever be missed in gospel music.

A mighty oak fell in the forest on the day Norman Wilson died. His influence as a man of God was far reaching. My three sons felt close to him since The Primitive Quartet had been a part of their lives growing up and our grief as The Wilburns is heavy. I smile, however, when I picture Jackie Wilburn standing just inside the gate to welcome his friend home.

Heaven’s choir got another great singer!! I truly loved to hear the Primitive Quartet!! My dad used to sing in a gospel group and he also sang tenor. That sound is dear to my heart. LOVE the old gospel songs and the Primitive’s sang them great. He will truly be missed. Thankful he used his talent to sing for the Lord and to spread God’s message to many many people. The quartet and family are in my thoughts and prayers. May God lead you through the next few days and all the days ahead.

We are truly grateful for the times we got to hear Brother Norman sing and the times we got to speak with him. Just like so many others, I’ll never forget his wonderful smile he always had. Norman was a true blessing from God. He changed my life and probably never knew it. I had the opportunity to be around him 25 yrs ago as my young trio often sang the same east tn churches booked by old school promoter Uncle Clarence Inman. All of the Primitive were incredible role models but Norman stood above and beyond with his attitude, kind words and encouragement to serve and worship through music. He may never have remembered me but I would feel like the most important person in the room after we spoke. I always said ‘he is the real deal’. In life, on stage and now again as he leads the way home. My sincere condolences.

We were both shocked and saddened to learn of Norman’s sudden passing. For more than thirty years, I’ve always looked forward to being on a program with The Primitive Quartet, knowing I would have the opportunity to hear some of Norman’s stories and to be blessed and encouraged by his reminders of how good God is to us. example of being a true Christian he has been a true blessing in our lives. It is hard to believe that Ruth and I were
with him and the rest of the Primitive’s and the Singing Cookes, whom both we
love so dearly last weekend in Hominy Valley, not knowing that Brother Norman
would be leaving for heaven that following Wednesday after noon. Thanks God we were blessed one more time

the news was a terrible shock for my family and I know to Ms. Wilson as well as the group, one of our most favorite groups ever, we have followed them for years, from special prayer, praising THE LORD, sharing tears and laughter, and always the warmth of a friend, hardly a day went by that dad (lost him in 88) was not listening to their music, I know dad and him are making up for lost time now. Sorry to hear of the passing of Norman. He went to school with my mother Judy Clark and has been a friend to her family (Watts family) for years. He has always been my favorite singer. His sweet and kind personality just made it so much more of a blessing to hear him sing. Knowing that he lived his life for the one he sang about. Every time I would see him he would give me a big hug and treated me like family. He is greatly missed already. To his wife, family, and the primitive quartet just keep trusting in Jesus and he will give you the daily strength that you need. Norman will truly be missed. Kaye, I am sorry for your loss. I never saw Norman that he didn’t have a smile on his face and when asked, ‘How are you doing?’ he always answer with ‘SO Blessed’. My father and Norman were best of friends. I have known Norman since before the Primitive quartet went professional. Back when his brother Furman sang tenor with them. My father passed on September 12th. I feel like I have lost another best friend. Norman came and sang at my dad’s funeral. So I got the chance to tell him how much I loved him and that he would always be family to my family and I. Norman always loved to get together with my dad and sing. He always told me that my dad knew more about singing by the shape notes than anyone he knew. I will leave everyone with this thought. Wouldn’t you have loved to have heard the choir in heaven that day. Prayers for mrs.Kaye remember the Boyd family loves you and will always be here if you need us.

From then until now, you have been special friends to us. We would try to get to go to your concerts when you came to our area. Not many people will be driving down the road, listen to good old songs of Zion, and just get in touch with God. Norman, and the rest of the Primitve Quartet, are one of the reasons for that. He was one of my ALL time favorite voices in gospel music. EVERY song he sang lead in ALWAYS touched my HEART. He ‘WILL’ be missed GREATLY. It is ironic to me that the last live project you guys did featured him on two songs back to back. When We Get Home and My Hope Is In The Blood which was AWESOME ! ! He will be GREATLY MISSED. Met Norman many years ago at a small church in candler when they were just starting. I moved to arkansas where southern gospel is not all that big. What a shock! Norman was such a blessing to everyone he met. He was such an encourager too! When I was growing up I remember going to hear The Primitives sing every New Year’s Eve at the Paramount Arts Center in Ashland, KY. My uncle, the late Bill Sturgill often entertained the Primitives in his home when they were in the Ashland area. Norman will be missed by all of us. Our loss is Heaven’s gain!

Norman, I never got to know you personally but have seen you many times on television and on video. I feel we could have become good friends. I felt a bond with you. well from when I lived in Candler. I lost touch after moving to Hampton,
Virginia but have relatives still living in Candler who informed me of Norman’s
passing. I hope the firm knowledge that you will be reunited with Norman in

Norman was a personal friend to me for years. This was a total shock to all of us.My heart goes out to Kaye and all the family, and also the rest of my friends THE PRIMITIVE. This town has truly lost a great man.

My late husband, James Davison, and Norman were great friends. Norman was to be the best man at our wedding but had a concert so he was unable to do so. I hate to say but after James died I lost touch with Norman. I hate to hear this news but know he is in a much better place. And he and James are having a reunion in God’s choir. I have been to Hominy Valley singing since it began. Having lived in north Asheville I feel like The Primitives are family. My mother has gone on to Heaven, my husband left for Heaven about 3 yrs ago and my best uncle left in August of this year. They all enjoyed Norman’s singing. I told my family that they may be singing with Norman today. I can just hear Norman saying,’ Younguns, we made!’ I am praying for his dear wife. I certainly know what you are going thru. My husband was just 57 and he had layed brick with some of the group years ago. Also, a big friend to Brian Chandler. May God bless each of you.

I know it’s always hard to say goodbye to a Loved One especially someone as special as Norman for everyone that ever met him Loved him and enjoyed every moment they had with him . You could just feel the love from him and that was because he was filled with God’s Love and always had a word of encouragement . Only Heaven knows how many people Norman has helped to find the Lord for if you was around him just a few minutes, he would talk about his Lord that he Loved so much . I was just reviewing my photos, today, from the NQC, September 27, 2014. Norman had posed for a photo with me. My wife and I have going to the NQC for years and the Primitive were one of groups we really enjoyed and Norman was a special person to us. We were watching the Primitive on TV today and at the end of the program a note was posted of his passing. He will truly be missed. I look forward to seeing him again in Heaven

I was shocked to hear that Norman passed away. I have some great pictures of him that I will be framing to hand in my home. He was such a unique and talented person and I am sure he’s still singing but now he’s in heaven with our Heavenly Father rejoicing forever. He will be sorely missed.

It has been two years since Normans passing and I still feel blessed to have known such a kind man of faith. I will never forget him going out of his way to have pictures taken with my mother (who thought he was the best thing since sliced bread) and always accommodating his fans with their many requests. From the first time I met Norman he made me feel like a friend, and remembered my name the next time I saw him six months later and the many times after. It hurts to know that he is gone from this life but it is reassuring to know that he will greet us all with that big smile when we cross that river. Rest in peace with God my friend!

It will be two years Oct. the 15 th since Norman was called home to be with his Heavenly Father , I was so very blessed to know him always had a smile and such a wonderful sense of humor !! You are missed so much by our family .. See you when we make it home my friend !

I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Norman and so sorry for loss of a great man of God. My parents would travel from Maryland to Hominy Valley and other places. Their favorite gospel group was the Primitive Quartet. My father Harold Ball thought the world of Norman. My dad always looked forward to talking with Norman. On October 22, 2014, my dad was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer with metastasis to the brain. He passed away December 10, 2014. My dad did not know Norman had made it to Heaven before him. What a surprise he had awaiting him when he reached Heaven’s gate. My dad and Norman can spend time talking forever now. What joy Norman brought to everyone who came into contact with him. Continued prayers for the family.
