Norman Lee “Pete” Lanning, 64, of El Paso, TX, died unexpectedly Saturday, August 7, 2004. Pete was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Lanning and Hattie Littrell Lanning. He attended Asheville city schools and served in the US Army. He was a retired dental technician. He is survived by three daughters, Elma Lanning Arriola and her husband Rey of Atlanta, GA, Arlina Lanning Metzler and her husband Mike of Lawrenceville, GA, and Dina Lynn Lanning of El Paso; one son, Andrew Jackson Lanning II of Atlanta; eight grandchildren, Eddie, Joseph and Brittany Lanning of El Paso, Chelsie and Zachery Arriola, James and Marissa Lanning of Atlanta and Hailey Metzler of Lawrenceville; a sister Margie Lanning Kirtley of Fletcher, five nieces and two nephews. A memorial service will be conducted by the Rev. Todd Eaton at 5:00 p.m. Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home.
