Inman, SC – Evelyn Chambers Green, 92, of Inman, SC, formerly of 2 Holiday Drive, Arden, NC passed away peacefully at RoseCrest Retirement Home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. She was born in Asheville, November 15, 1921 to the late John Lewis and Pearl Smith Chambers. She was a lifelong resident of Asheville until moving to Inman in March and the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by her loving husband of 71 years, Paul Green, of Inman; daughter, Judy Rhodes (David) of Inman; son, Michael Green (Carol) of Greenville, SC; grandson, Ted Gordon (Tammy) of Boiling Springs, SC; step grandsons, Jeff Rhodes and Kevin Rhodes of Hendersonville; great grandchildren, Colby Blackwell (Jon) and Will Gordon; great great grandchild, Edie Blackwell born May 6, 2014. She was predeceased by brothers, Jack and Bill Chambers. Evelyn was a graduate of Lee Edwards H.S. (1939) and Biltmore College. After her marriage to Paul on September 25, 1942 she lived a full life as a homemaker and vital member of her community. She taught Sunday school at West Asheville Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir, she taught millinery classes at the Asheville YWCA, was a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital for 35 years and enjoyed her sewing club and "lunch-brunch." She was a member of Arden Presbyterian Church where she had many friends who loved to see her sitting on the back row in her "beautiful hats." Evelyn loved music and the arts and was an accomplished pianist and painter. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher with Reverend Ed Graham officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arden Presbyterian Church, 2215 Hendersonville Rd, Arden, NC 28704.
