Betty Jean Moody

Betty Jean Roberts Moody, 74, of 23 Woodmont Drive, Asheville, died Thursday, September 5, 2002, in an Asheville hospital. Mrs. Moody was born in Buncombe County and was a daughter of the late Hobert and Annie Haney Roberts. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Burton Moody in 1976, a daughter, Tina Lands, a grandson Israel Burleson and a great-grandson Cody Blankenship. She retired in 1990 from K-Mart Corporation and she was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She was an active member of the Harvest House Community Center where she served as president from 1997 - 1999. Her hobbies included ceramics, bird watching, gardening and playing Canasta with her friends. She was a wonderful, loving, and generous mother who left us much too early and who will be greatly missed. She is survived by three daughters, Ruthenia Williams and Marie Elliott of Asheville and Rugenia Moody of Hollywood, FL; one son, Johnny Moody of Asheville; a brother Gene Roberts of Asheville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm Sunday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Bishop officiating. Her family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
