Dorothy J. Whitton

Hendersonville – Dorothy J. Whitton, 87, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2013. A native and lifelong resident of Asheville, she was a daughter of the late Willard Brooks and Mamie Gardner Whitton and was also preceded in death by her brother, Carl Whitton in 2007. Dorothy was a retired Executive Assistant with North State Materials Company and Taylor Instrument. She is survived by a sister, Louise W. Nygren and her husband, the Rev. Herbert Nygren, of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Whitten of Asheville; and six nieces and nephews, Bill Fishburne, Frank Fishburne, Carolyn Fishburne Weisbecker, Beth Whitton Bell, Herb Nygren and Steve Nygren. The family would like to express their gratitude to Lorraine Ganly and to the staff of the Life Care Center of Hendersonville for their loving care for Dorothy. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday at Green Hills Cemetery conducted by Father Erich A. Zwingert of the All Saints Anglican Church in Mills River. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dorothy's name may be made to the Life Care Centers of America-Hendersonville, 400 Thompson St., Hendersonville, NC 28792. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
