Gertrude H. King, 93, of 102 N. Holland St., Asheville, died Saturday, August 24, 2002.
She was born March 17, 1909, in Buncombe County to the late Jim and Sue Harwood. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd S. King of Yancey County, one brother and one sister.
She is survived by three sisters, Sarah H. Robinson of Weaverville, and Alice Miller and Ruth Alexander and her husband William of Asheville; two brothers Bill Harwood and his wife Catherine and Dan Harwood and his wife Ruth of Weaverville; Linda Ingle, Jim Alexander and Mike Alexander whom she helped raise and several other nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. James W. Donati officiating. Burial will be at Skyview Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and request that memorials be made to the family in care of Ruth Alexander, 102 N. Holland Street, Asheville, NC 28801.
Mrs.Alexander:
I was sorry to learn of Mrs. King’s passing. You and she were always among my favorites of all those I visited while working with Visiting Health Professionals. I no longer am in Asheville but I still am working in the home health field. She and I shared a love of animals. She was such a gentle and sweet person.
