Woodfin Eugene "Gene-o" Barnwell, 71, of Ducker Road, Arden, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2013. A native of Henderson Co., he was the son of the late Edward and Deli Riddle Barnwell and was also preceded in death by two sons, David and Rudy Barnwell. He attended Midway Family Church and was a retired painter with G.W. Goode Painting Services. He is survived by his companion of 32 years, Billie Sharpe; daughter, Kathy Butler; one granddaughter, Holly Barnwell and a brother, Carroll Barnwell. A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 am Saturday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Revs. Keith Dockins and Jimmy Sales. Interment will follow in New Salem Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

    Gene was part of my family for many years, he had a unique sense of humor and could always be counted on for a good laugh.
