Asheville – Jeanne Pennington Batts Searcy, 85, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013.
A native of Buncombe County, she was the daughter of the late James Arthur and Mary Sugg Pennington and wife of the late Harold Benjamin Searcy. She was a retired bookkeeper and office manager with Ballard's Appliance was a member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Meares and her husband, Henry, of Mills River; her son, William C. "Bud" Batts and his wife, Roberta, of Florence, SC; a brother, Jim Pennington and his wife, Karen, of Arizona; five grandchildren, Jeffrey Meares and his wife, Norma, Alison Cohen and her husband, Warren, Victoria Loke and her husband, John-Michael, Matthew Meares and his wife, Laura and Bill Batts and his wife, Meg. Also surviving are eleven great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be said at 11:00 am on Monday, March 25 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the mass. Interment will follow in Calvary Episcopal Churchyard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Barnabas building fund, 109 Crescent Hill Road, Arden, NC 28704 or the American Heart Association or to one's favorite charity.

I am sorry that I could not attend Jeanne’s funeral.
I knew Jeanne through my Mother, Gloria Rogers.
They played cards together at the Church.
Jeanne had a kind word and a huge smile for everyone. She always spoke so highly of her family. My prayers are with you.
