Patricia Ann Gillam Badger, 76, of Asheville, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, December 29, 2012, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was the daughter of the late Jarvis and Eula Eubanks Gilliam. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruby Gilliam Ford, and brothers, James, John, Ray, Ralph, and Eurel "Shug" Gilliam. She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Clyde E. Badger; son, William E. Badger and wife Susan, of Candler; granddaughter, Sarah Badger Sawyer and husband Michael, of Raleigh; grandson, Andrew M. Badger of Fairfax, VA; and great-grandson, Will Sawyer, of Raleigh. She is also survived by her special aunt, Josie Eubanks, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat graduated from Duncan High School and Cecil's Business College, in Spartanburg, SC. Pat was employed at NCR Corp., where she met her husband, and then at Spartanburg Methodist College until her move to Asheville in 1979. Mrs. Badger was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she served as a deacon and President and Section Leader of the Jubilee Choir. She was also a member of the Faith Bible Study Class, and served as an office volunteer. Memo Pat was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. She enjoyed walking at the mall with her friends, going to Bojangles on Merrimon Ave. every day, family gatherings, going up on the Blue Ridge Parkway for picnics, and making pound cakes for her friends on their birthday. A memorial service for Mrs. Badger will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church of Asheville with the Revs. Dr. Guy Sayles, David Blackmon, and Leah Brown officiating. Her family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Pat Badger Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church, 5 Oak Street, Asheville, NC 28801. The family would like to thank the staffs at the St. Joseph campus of Mission Hospitals and at Pisgah Manor Health Care Center for their excellent and loving care. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave. is assisting the family.
