Juanita Phipps Shope Brown, 85, of 207 Holcombe Cove Road, Candler, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012.
Mrs. Brown was born in Buncombe County and was retired from the National Climatic Center as a Photo Lab Technician. She also operated her own photography studio.
She was known as the "Flower Lady of Holcombe Cove" because she shared her cut flowers with neighbors and friends.
Surviving are her husband, Charlie Brown; son, Robert Shope and wife Barbara, of Lugoff, SC; step-son Bobby Brown of Candler; step-daughters Marilyn Lanier of Dallas, NC, and Norma Jean Scarborough of Hendersonville, NC; special friend Sheila Swicegood; three sisters, Martha Griffin of Fletcher, Annabelle Beverly of Paducah, KY, and Jeanette Wallen of Valporiso, IN; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Melba Banks officiating.
Although Juanita loved flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to one's favorite charity in her memory.

Martha and family, we were saddened to learn of the loss of your sister, etc. she was very beautiful. A rose in a beautiful bouquet of sisters. Our prayers are with you. With love, from Kim, Jennie and Allen.
She will always be my favorite Aunt. Her gardens were epic. She was the eldest of Roy and Nellie Phipps, and my mom, Jeanette Wallen, is the baby of the family. My mom is the last child of Roy and Nellie, still alive. I never had a bad visit to NC when we could fit in a visit with her and Charlie Brown. If any of the family want family photos, mom went on a three month trip visiting as many family, the children and grandchildren as she could. While visiting, she scanned all the family photos she could. Mom has had a few strokes but I hope to have her say hello to anyone who wants to say they met the preachers daughter, the bad girl who could do no wrong in daddy’s eyes. Please leave a number and/or email. She can’t see well these days because she started negative retouching for Aunt Juanita whe she was 13. But, she is still kind, loving and enjoys meeting family. I personally want to connect with you, and am looking anyone in the Phipps/Moore, for my dad, Bill Wallen, so I can fill in as much info as I can between the families. My dad died in 1962 so that side of the family are really hard to find. Blessings to everyone and Aunt Juanita, I still wonder about the ghosts!
