Olivia Calhoun Shope

Olivia Calhoun Shope, 89, of Asheville, died Monday, July 2, 2012, at Pisgah Manor. A native of Cherokee Co., she was a daughter of the late Virgil H. and Hattie Hooper Calhoun. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. McCollum, and by four sisters. Mrs. Shope is survived by children Dolores Reeves and her husband, David, David McCollum and his wife, Sandra, Portia Simpson and her husband, LB, and Iris Davis and her husband, Dick; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gerald Sprinkle officiating. Interment will follow at New Morgan Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
