Harold Sardeman, 97, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at his home with his daughters by his side. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa, on October 17, 2011 at age 93.
Mr. Sardeman, a native of Holland, had a successful banking career with Chase-Manhattan Bank and had at one time opened the company's first branch in Hong Kong following his service with the Dutch Army in World War II.
He and Louisa moved to the United States in 1980 and to Western North Carolina in 1986.
He is survived by daughter Reni N. Hamner of Asheville and her sons Joe Hamner of Atlanta, Derek Hamner of Washington, DC, and Ryan and Courtney Hamner of Asheville along with their daughters Anna and Elise; and his daughter Christa Narjes of Pisgah Forest and her son Mario, of Mobile.
The family extends special gratitude to long-time friend Sharon Edwards and to the staff and volunteers of Hospice in Brevard for their help and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice in Brevard. A private family memorial service will be held soon. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue in Asheville is in charge of arrangements.
